The mission of the Friends of the Osher Library is to support and promote the interests and the growth of the Osher Map Library and the Smith Center for Cartographic Education in every possible way. The fundamental purpose of the Library and the Center is to serve not only map scholars but to educate the general public and students of all ages – from kindergarten through college and lifelong learning- in the wonders of historic documents which are so incredibly rich in social and cultural significance. Maps indeed have extraordinary power to portray and illuminate the civilizations that produced them.

We are committed to broadening our base of support and to making our maps even more accessible to the public. As we proceed with a national campaign to support our expanded efforts, we hope to continue to merit your interest and support.
